If you love nature and the environment you can’t miss the 17th Gala In The Garden at the San Diego Botanic Garden! The Garden offers 37 acres of year-round blooms and beauty with 27 diverse gardens and their extensive plant collections from around the world. It is also a great venue for weddings and events under the stars.
I’ve been a proud volunteer as the Logistics & Operations Director of the Annual Gala since 2008 and I hope you will join me on Saturday, September 10. Over 500 attendees, including local business leaders, Garden supporters and community members will have the opportunity to explore the Garden trails, enjoy fine wine, craft beer, the best dishes from local restaurants, live entertainment and exquisite floral designs under the supervision or world renowned Creative Director Rene’ van Rems.
What I also love about the Annual Gala is that the Garden is committed to sustainability and they minimize waste as much as possible. This effort includes: Using post-consumer waste recycled paper and soy-based inks; Reducing use of paper in invitations and programs; Providing on-site recycling of paper, plastics, and glass; Composting or recycling all food waste and tableware; Donating food surplus to charities in need
Every year the San Diego Botanic Garden recognizes exceptional achievement by an individual or group in education, conservation and preservation of plants, places and wildlife with the Paul Ecke Jr. Award of Excellence. This year’s Honoree at the Gala will be Nan Sterman. She is a gardening expert, author, and host / co-producer / co-writer of the KPBS series A Growing Passion. Ms. Sterman is considered one of California’s leading voices on creating beautiful, low water and sustainable gardens; removing and replacing lawns with beautiful, low-water plants; and growing organic vegetables and herbs.
