4 Tips and a timeline to book your wedding vendors

Planning a wedding can be an overwhelming task with endless decisions. Many of my wedding clients always feel a lot of pressure when it comes to selecting their most appropriate vendors. The industry is very competitive and filled with lots of great professionals but, also with amateurs who decide to venture into the wedding world without any experience. How can wedding couples know who is the right vendor for them? This is why I always recommend that they hire a professional wedding planner who can guide them through the process and refer them to a few amazing, experienced, knowledgeable, and trustworthy vendors.

WHAT SHOULD WEDDING COUPLES CONSIDER WHEN SELECTING A VENDOR?

Here are four tips for you.

Set priorities

One of the first questions I ask my wedding clients when we create their wedding vision is: “What is most important to you?” Their answer will help me understand what their expectations are for their wedding day. Is it the food? We will need to find an extraordinary catering company that can accommodate their needs, especially if they are planning on serving ethnic cuisine. Is it the memories? Photography and videography will be on top of our list. Is it the atmosphere? We will focus on a great live band or unique lighting effects. Once you have a clear idea of what you envision you can create a list of the key vendors you need.

Play matchmaker

This is something that I absolutely love doing. Usually, planners recommend vendors to their wedding clients based on style, needs, and budget. I add one more aspect which is the personality match. This is extremely helpful for some vendors such as invitation designer, florist, photographer and DJ. These professionals will be more than “wedding vendors”, they will set the tone and spend a lot of time with the couple designing, planning, creating memorable moments. You should be very comfortable with your DJ, he should know and like your music tastes, your favorite genres, etc. That way, he / she will do an amazing job at the reception. You should feel at ease with your photographer since you will spend the entire wedding day with him / her taking pictures. If you don’t like each other chances are, you will be disappointed with the images.

Browse their portfolio

This seems very obvious but sometimes wedding couples decide to book a vendor just because he / she is cheap and it will save them money. Unfortunately, most of the times you get what you pay for and when you realize you selected the wrong vendor it’s too late. You should always meet with the vendor (possibly in person), discuss their style, their ethics, and see their work before you sign the agreement. Would you ever hire a florist without even knowing if she can make those beautiful, towering centerpieces that you saw on Pinterest? Vendors have their own style, specialty and limitations, especially when it comes to design. You should always make sure that they are familiar with what you have in Β mind and they can translate your vision into a beautiful celebration, exactly like you wanted!

Read online reviews

Reading reviews from past wedding couples is a very helpful way to decide which vendors you should book. Where can you find legitimate online reviews? WeddingWire is my first choice (you can read my reviews HERE). WeddingWire isΒ the leading global online marketplace connecting engaged couples with event and creative professionals. Couples are able to read over 3 million vendor reviews and search, compare and book from a database of over 400,000 businesses.
