Pantone’s Color of the Year 2018 is here and I love it!

As you probably know, Pantone (the global color authority) selects a Color Of The Year around this time in December and designers of all sorts can’t wait to hear the news. When it was finally announced it a few days ago I was super excited!

Ultra Violet (Pantone 18-3838) is described as “a dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade. It communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.” And, it’s part of the evergreen purple family which is very popular in weddings and social events. Fabulous!

I designed many weddings and events with purple in mind and I always loved to use different shades of purple because the range is ideal for any type of celebration, from low-key (think lavender fields and rustic furniture) to über-chic (black tie affairs with white and silver accents). And, there are so many gorgeous flowers that bring purple emotions to the picture!

Besides being an enigmatic color (I always associate it to wizards!) with royal qualities (many rulers from the past were the only ones who could afford purple fabrics because of the amount of work needed to produce it), purple has always been iconic in our culture. Many artists adopted it (do you remember Prince?) to express their individuality.

As Pantone points out on their website, Ultra Violet can be created for memorable looks in different worlds, not only design or event planning in my particular case. You can find shades of Ultra Violet in fashion, beauty and home décor and the results are truly amazing.

Final words? I LOVE IT!

If you want to bring some Ultra Violet into your life, go shopping on Pantone’s website – There you will find everything from shoes to nail polish (my obsession!) to home accessories to clothing for a colorful year! By the way, Butter London partnered with Pantone to create an exclusive collection featuring Pantone Color of the Year 2018 and complementary tonal hues. What are we waiting for?!? YAY!
